Located on the most eastern point of the island, Pura Lempuyang Temple Bali is around 2 hours from Ubud and 2 and a half hours from Canggu. We stayed in the Canggu area and rented scooters long term, although you can pick them up for around 50,000 Rupiah per day. Many people heading to East Bali choose to stay in the small beach town of Amed, which is around 30 minutes from Pura Lempuyang.

    Entrance – Free

The temple asks for donations only. We recommend around 10,000 – 30,000 IDR per person, which is the usual price of temple entrances in Bali.

Sarong Rental – 10,000 IDR. You must wear a sarong so if you have your own be sure to take it.

Pura Lempuyang Temple is a Balinese Hindu temple located in the slope of Mount Lempuyang, 600 metres above sea level. Known on the island as one of the most highly regarded temples in Bali, it has become more popular in recent years amongst tourists thanks to Instagram.

The Bali gateway to heaven is quite far from a lot of other typical holiday destinations in Bali. Although that doesn’t stop people flocking out East to witness the view amongst the clouds and capture some beautiful photos. There have been rumours about hours of queuing for the photo, however we visited at sunrise and there were around 6 other tourists taking photos with no problems.

There are 7 temples – Many people don’t realise there are actually 7 temples within the grounds. The whole loop of Pura Lempuyang Temple Bali takes around 4 hours.

The first is a 5 minute walk – The famous photo spot is located at the first temple, so you won’t have to walk far before you get your cameras out.

Your shoulders must be covered! – Unless your shoulders are covered you will not be allowed to enter Pura Lempuyang Temple. So make sure to wear a t-shirt or take a scarf of some sort.

No kissing – Pura Lempuyang Temple Bali is a very religious Hindu temple so any form of kissing in public is seen as scandalous.

No drones – Photographers beware. Although there has been much drone footage of Pura Lempuyang Bali, we were told were weren’t allowed to fly our drone.

What time to visit? – There’s no specific time to visit Pura Lempuyang Temple. We visited at 7am for sunrise, although had to wait for the clouds to clear. So if you want a beautiful photo we recommend sunrise or sunset but keep your fingers crossed it’s not cloudy.
