Bun Cha Ca
Bun Cha Ca is a specialty of central Binh Dinh Province, recognized by the Asian Records Organization as one of the Asian specialties.
Cha ca (fish cake) is the main ingredient of this dish and is made of many kinds of fresh fish including lizardfish, barracuda and mackerel. When enjoying this delicacy, customers will experience the aromatic and sweet taste of the broth which is cooked with the simmered fish bones, pumpkin, cabbage, pineapple, tomato and dried bamboo shoots. Bun Cha Ca Quy Nhon can be served with raw vegetables, jellyfish, thinly-sliced lemons and chilies.
Banh Xeo Tom Nhay (“Jumping” shrimp pancake)
Are you curious about the name of this dish? The term “jumping shrimp” is used to describe the freshness of the shrimp. This pancake is much smaller than the southern version. The pancakes are eaten with rice paper, a little bit of herbs, mango, and cucumber. The sweet of the shrimps, the sour of mango and raw banana, all are mixed with the special flavor of the pancakes.
The first layer is a thin crust, and up top is the combination of shrimps, sprouts, sliced onions, and minced cilantro. The sauce is made of fish sauce, sugar, lemon juice, and some minced garlic and chili. The pancake also needs some sprouts, sliced cucumber, and sour star fruit. All are mixed to deliver a sensational experience to the eaters.
Goi Sua (Jellyfish Salad)
While traveling in Quy Nhon, stunning Goi Sua certainly is a must-try dish. Being tasty, cool and cheap makes it very popular during summer. There are 2 main parts of a jellyfish: body & tails. Their body is cut into smaller pieces, looks transparent and a little blue. On the other hand, the tails are darker and more crispy. That is why they are more delicious and expensive.
Banh Hoi is originated from Binh Dinh province which consisting of rice vermicelli woven into intricate bundles. The cake is made from rice flour, and the cake is a different version of the fresh noodle. The noodle is very thick, so in order to extend the list of food, the cook has made the noodle smaller to make the Banh Hoi. The grilled or steamed pork is usually served with the cake. The people of Binh Dinh often have the cake with pig organs.
What a big miss if traveling or passing Quy Nhon without trying any seafood here. There is a seafood street here, Xuan Dieu street, so you should stop by and try. Usually, the price in Quy Nhon is much cheaper than in Ho Chi Minh city and the fishes, shrimp, squid, shells are also fresher.
Banh It La Gai
The flour cake is a bucolic symbol of the people in Binh Dinh. Nothing special in ingredients, yet explosive in flavors are what you will get when first tried this peculiar cake. From the outside, the crust is made of sticky rice flour with prickly leaves and sugar. The inside is made of smashed pea or coconut meat. The outside is slushy, fat and sweet while the inside is spicy and bold.
