Lal Mandir
Located just opposite the massive Red Fort, the Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir is the oldest and best known Jain temple in Delhi. Originally built in 1526, the temple has undergone many alterations and additions in the past and was enlarged in the early 19th century. The imposing red sandstone temple is also known as Lal Mandir.
Gomateshwara Temple
Situated in the Shravanabelagola town of Karnataka, Gomateshwara temple is a Jain temple dedicated to Lord Bahubali also known Gommateshwara or Kammateshwara. This colossal rock cut statue is most the magnificent among all Jain works of art. It was built in 928 A.D. and is one of the mightiest achievement of ancient Karnataka in the realm sculpture art. The statue stands upright in meditation posture knowns as kyotsarga. His eyes are open as he is watching the world with detachment.
Dilwara Temple
Located just about 3 kilometres away from Mount Abu, Rajasthan's only hill station, the Dilwara group of temples are world renowned for the stunning use of marble in its build. Some even consider it to be the most beautiful of the Jain temples in the world. They are simple, yet fascinating and situated in the midst of the forest. There are five temples in the area. One can spend a number of hours just noticing all the sculptures and carvings done so carefully and artfully on the structures.
Sonagiri Temples
Sonagiri Temple is the one which is situated near the Datia District of the Madhya Pradesh which is mostly famous for different Jain temples located in the whole village and even on the hill. Sonagiri is named as one of the most famous Jain religious sites which are considered to be very sacred among the Jain community and their followers. This whole place consists of almost 84 white temples there among which some of them are small, and some are a large one which is situated on this hill.
Ranakpur Temple
Dedicated to Adinatha, the Jain Temple in Ranakpur rises majestically from the slope of a hill. The temple is supported by over 1444 marble pillars, carved in exquisite detail. The pillars are all differently carved and no two pillars are the same. The construction of the temple and quadrupled image symbolize the Tirthankara’s conquest of the four cardinal directions and hence the cosmos. The dating of this temple is controversial but it was probably built between the late 14th and mid-15th centuries.
The Palitana Temples
The Palitana temples of Jainism are located in the city of Palitana in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat on Shatrunjaya hill, India. It is one of the popular pilgrimage centres for Jain’s in India.
There are in total 863 Jain temples in Palitana which are made up of marble. But the main temple of Palitana is dedicated to Rishabhanatha, the first Tirthankara of Jainism. Amongst all the Jain temples in India, Palitana temples are considered to be the most sacred. In fact, Palitana is a place where millions and millions of Jain sadhu and muni got salvation. It was believed that 23 out of 24 Jain Tirthankaras, except Neminatha, sanctified the hill by their visits.
Shikharji Temple
Shikharji Temple is located at the Parasnath Hill in Jharkhand state. It is named after the temple which is located at the highest mountain in the whole state. This Jain temple is dedicated to the Sir Digambar Jain`s. It is very beautiful temple which has a large number of followers all around the India.
