Churaumi Aquarium
It is widely considered Japan's best aquarium, the highlight of a visit to the Churaumi Aquarium is the massive Kuroshio Tank, one of the largest in the world. The tank takes its name from the warm Kuroshio current which plays a large part in the variety of Okinawa's of marine life. The tank contains a wide variety of species, the most striking of which is the giant whale sharks and manta rays.
Okinawa Peace Memorial Park
The main memorial to the Battle of Okinawa is the Peace Memorial Park, which is located near the southern tip of the island. Its main attraction is the Peace Memorial Museum, which gives a sobering overview of the lead up to the battle, the battle itself and the reconstruction of Okinawa. This memorial park is located on the hill of Mabuni, Itoman city where the battle in Okinawa took place during WWII. You can experience viewing the beautiful coastline and learning the history in the museum.
Shuri Castle
One of the Okinawa’s symbols was the center of Ryukyu Kingdom in the aspect of politics, diplomacy, and culture from 1429 to 1879. This area has prospered with unique culture inspired by Japan, China, and south-east Asia. The architecture of the castle represents the culture.
Mihama American Village
The Mihama American Village is a large entertainment complex located in central Okinawa Honto. Many American military bases are located in the area, and the entertainment complex' theme of Americana provides a nostalgic pleasure for residents of the bases as well as an interesting diversion for the locals. The most recognizable feature of the American Village is the large Ferris Wheel. The Americana theme is found at many establishments, such as fashion shops selling American brand clothing or restaurants specializing in hot dogs and hamburgers.
Kokusaidori Street
Kokusaidori, literally means International Road is Naha's main street, stretching for roughly two kilometers through downtown Naha. The street takes its name from the former "Ernie Pyle International Theater", a movie theater that was built along the road after the war. Kokusaidori is lined by restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels, souvenir shops, boutiques, and department stores. If you are looking for even more shopping opportunities, it is recommended to venture into the colorful Heiwadori, Mutsumidori and Ichiba Hondori shopping arcades that branch off from Kokusaidori around the intersection with Okieidori, halfway along the street.
